Strategic plans for Nanjing’s creative and cultural industries are to:
Vigorously develop creative design services industries such as industrial design, architectural design, environmental design, and fashion design; creative art services industries such as film and television production, literary and artistic creation, and publication planning; and creative Internet and information services industries such as animation production, online games, and advertisement services; thus forging a new creative and cultural industry cluster.
Accelerate the development of a creative cultural industry park and animation industry base and establish a central city of creative culture with nationwide influences.
In 2011, Nanjing’s creative and cultural industries realized an added value of USD 4.3 billion, accounting for 4.25% of the GDP. Currently, Nanjing has 53 cultural industry parks (bases) in operation with a gross floor area of around 3 million m2 and over 2,000 tenant enterprises.
The added value of the creative cultural industry is expected to grow at an average annual growth rate of over 20% and to account for 6 to 8% of the total added value of the cultural industry by 2015, making the cultural industry a pillar industry for the municipal economy.
